J&M Handlebar Mounted CBs
If you ride with a group, chances are you've wanted to be able to talk to
other riders as you go. Sometimes you need to signal the need for a gas
stop, sometimes you're the lead rider needing to convey directions or warn of
road hazards, and sometimes you just want to talk about the scenery with your
fellow riders.
If two of you ride together on one bike, chances are you've yelled against
the road noise and gestured wildly just to get convey a simple message.
Ever get stuck in a traffic jam and want to know why or how long it's going
to last?
The J&M handlebar-mounted CBs are designed to solve those problems, and then
some. First and foremost, these gadgets are CBs. They let you
communicate with anyone else who has a CB. If others in your group have a
CB, this is a great way to communicate within a riding group. When riding
by myself, I've used my
CB on more than one occasion to talk to semi-truck drivers; sometimes those
conversations are just fun and sometimes quite helpful. On a couple of
occasions, truck drivers have helped me determine how close I was to the end of
a traffic jam. I received lodging recommendation another time.
Second, the CB's also have a built-in NOAA weather radio. If it looks like
you're heading into some ominous weather, you can flip to weather radio mode and
find out what's really going on. if you're stuck under a bridge waiting
for severe weather to pass, you can tune in to find out how long you'll be
there.
Third, you can listen to music through the device. While not a (music)
radio itself, the J&M CB's allow you to plug in any music device with a "mini
headphone" (i.e. "Walkman style") plug. If I know I'll be on the
interstate for a long time, I'll plug in my Mini Disc player and let my favorite
travlin' tunes add something to the monotony that is our super-slab system.
Finally, the "dual rider" version has a built-in intercom. For the
two-up travelers out there, this is a great way to communicate without strain.
To communicate using the CB, use the device's push-to-talk button(s).
For the "solo rider" version, this is located on the device itself, within easy
reach of the rider's left index finger. The dual rider version adds an
additional button that you can fasten to either rear handgrip with hook-and-loop
(formerly known as Velcro) straps.

CB Mounting Bracket - Honda

This will work on most Honda scooters/motorcycles with a clutch or rear brake lever on the left handlebar. (Will NOT work with Honda Helix, for example.) If the two bolts that secure the clutch/brake fluid rerservoir are not exposed, you may need to trim away some body plastic to use this mount.
NOTE: This will also work with the Suzuki Burgman 650, but not the Burgman 400. You may need to add extra spacers to allow the push-to-talk lever to clear the "shifter" control assembly on the Burgman 650.

Antenna Kit
Select the antenna height that best fits your needs. In general, the
top of the antenna should reach above your head for best reception.
Considering this, choose the antenna height based upon where you intend to mount
the antenna. If you are going to be mounting it low (on the license plate
frame, for example), get a tall antenna. If you are going to be mounting
it high (under a luggage mounting plate, for example), get a shorter antenna.
Be aware that if your antenna is too tall, you might not be able to ride your
bike into your garage!
Other things to consider when selecting a mounting location for the antenna:
| If you don't have any luggage system on the back of your bike, mounting
the antenna to your license plate frame is probably the easiest spot to mount
it. |
| If you do have a top-box on the back of your motorcycle, it is quite
likely that it will interfere with an antenna mounted on the license plate
frame. In this case, you may be
able to fashion a flat-bar that can be mounted between your luggage plate and
the bike. (If you have a GIVI - or similar - mounting plate, you may
need to cut away some of the luggage mounting plate to make this work.) This is how we've
mounted the antenna on Tara's Burgman 650. If you have our Fehling rear
rails, another option that works well is to use the license plate kit to mount
the antenna to the rear rails. We've done this with Ian's Silver Wing. |

Helmet Headset
