Ride Well... And Well Equipped. |
WindshieldsMost folks we know who ride their scooters long distances find their stock windshields don't offer quite enough protection against the wind or rain. A taller and wider windshield is generally preferred. DesignOur windshields are manufactured by Clearview Shields. In addition to being larger, Clearview windshields are made with high impact, DOT-approved plastic and have a slight compound contour that gently sweeps upward from their lower angles to a posture that is a bit more vertical on the top section. This shape greatly strengthens the screen while it directs the airflow higher over the rider. Many riders find that the shape and size of these windshields provides a quieter pocket in which to ride. TintingAll of our Clearview windshields are available in both a clear and a light grey tinted color. The tint is not created through laminates, but rather through color pigments added to the plastic resin. Extra UV inhibitors are also added to the resin to increase the windshield's resistance to breakdown from ultraviolet light. This enhancement will also protect anything else behind the screen, such as the dash surface or electronic gadgets. It is important to note that while the clear plastic will allow 96% of the light to pass through, our lightest grey tint will allow 76% light transmittance. Some long-distance riders choose a light grey tint for the UV protection and glare reduction it offers and still feel confident that they will be able to see adequately at night. Here is an idea of the possible tint colors: Note that Light Grey is available on all of our windshields and is the only tinting we offer ourselves. We are currently not stocking any tinted shields, but will be happy to have Clearview drop-ship your tinted shield to you. This process generally adds anywhere from a couple to several weeks to our turn-around time. RainOne concern that many riders have when considering a larger windshield is "If it's so large that I have to look through it, what will happen in the rain - will I still be able to see the road?". The best solution to this, of course, is to get a windshield that you can see over. To help with this, our windshields all come in a variety of sizes so you can select the one that's best for you. The windshields on our personal bikes are tall enough that when we ride in a slouched position, we see through the shields, but if we sit up straight and maybe stretch just a touch, we see over them. Your needs may differ, so chose a size accordingly. Most windshields are coated in such a way that applying rain-repelling agents to them will cause fogging. However, Clearview windshields can safely be treated with "Rain-X Original Glass Treatment" to improve visibility while riding in the rain. VentingSure, having a larger shield is great when you're riding along at high speeds on the interstates. But what about when you're cruising around town at lower speeds on a really hot day? Sometimes it's good to be able to let a little wind through. Most of our windshields can be ordered with an optional adjustable vent. The vent can be closed, partially open, or fully open to provide you with just the right amount of airflow. We have access to windshields for many, many different bikes but can't list them all here. One of our suppliers may make a windshield for your bike. A Note about AvailabilityWe try to keep a quantity of these windshields in stock, but wont always have everything on hand. If you'd like to know if a particular shield size is available, please contact us. If we don't have it in stock, we'll certainly be glad to let you know our current lead times. Our standard practice for handling "out of stock" windshield orders is to determine if we've already placed a "stock up our inventory" order with our supplier for that particular windshield. If we have, we'll let you know how long it will take for us to receive it. In the rare case that we've not placed such an order, we'll send the appropriate paperwork through to our supplier for them to create it and send it directly to you. Once we know it, we'll let you know the expected lead time. Depending upon the time of year, we've seen this lead time take between 2 and 10 weeks. However, if you contact us requesting information about availability BEFORE placing your order, we can let you know if the shield you want is in stock. If it is not in stock and not coming soon in an order we've placed, we can work out an arrangement whereby we take a partial-payment deposit for your shield just to get the order into the manufacturing pipeline. Shortly before the windshield is ready to ship, we will collect payment for the remainder. In this manner, you don't have to have the entire amount charged to your credit card with nothing to show for it while the windshield is being manufactured. Take note, though, that you need to contact us BEFORE placing your order. |
